People often say things without really thinking about the meaning. For example, the word "Lord". What's this? One of the names of God? Or is it just a form of address, like the words "master", "comrade" and others? As a rule, few people understand such subtleties.
Meaning
God is synonymous with God. Most dictionaries consider it as one of the names of the Almighty used in Christianity.
Don't take this literally though. That is, it is not the same as Jesus Christ. The concept of "God" is broader. This is not specific data on what God's name is. In modern language, a more accurate definition would be the meaning of "name".
The difference between them is not particularly difficult to understand, considering the example, far from religious concepts. Suppose there is a man whose name is Ivan Petrov. So, in this example, the concept of "man" has exactly the meaning in which the word "Lord" is used in relation to God.
How is this word used?
It tends to be pronounced not only by people in everyday speech. It is also used:
- when praying;
- inliterary works;
- within the framework of stable speech expressions;
- in sermons and religious texts.
The word itself is not a speech monopoly. The expression "Lord God" is not a tautology or a speech error.
This is a word that can be used in speech and as a common noun, that is, the name of God, and as an appeal to him, or as an additional characterizing expression that emphasizes the special high position of the Almighty over people.
In addition, this expression is used to indicate ownership. For example, in the names of the holidays - the Presentation of the Lord, the Circumcision of the Lord, and so on.
Which expressions have the same meaning?
Synonyms with the same meaning are usually used as follows:
- Creator.
- God.
- God.
- Creator.
The last word can be used as a synonym only in an explanatory context. As a rule, this is a stable phrase "of all things." The form “Lord” is an appeal, that is, such an expression is not used as a name in speech. Moreover, both in colloquial and literary.
The word "master" is not a synonym in the full sense, although it comes from the expression in question. Its meaning is similar to the concept of "Lord" only in that it denotes the high status of the person in question. But, of course, not similar to the position of the Almighty.
