To whom the temple is dedicated
The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is dedicated to people who accepted torment, persecution and even death in the name of God. Biblical stories about those who suffered for the Orthodox faith are familiar to many, but when creating the community and laying the foundation stone of the temple, it was about the heroes of recent history, almost our contemporaries. The first churches of the Christian faith were erected near the graves of ascetics and guardians of the faith and bore their names. The twentieth century severely treated the church and many deeply religious people, their names and deeds became an example of serving the faith and the Fatherland.
History of the community
The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino began with a community that was registered in 2000. A year later, permission was received to allot a plot of land for the construction of a church on Stroginsky Boulevard. In 2002, permission was issued for the construction of the church, with the proviso that the construction will be limited to a single building,non-complex.
The first shrines arrived at the future Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino in 2004. Pilgrims brought reliquaries from the monastery of Mary Magdalene (Mount of Olives) with the relics of Grand Duchess Elizabeth and nun Barbara, as well as an icon with their faces.
The temporary temple was installed and consecrated in April 2008, in the winter of 2010 the construction of the prosphora was laid, in which the first batch of artos was baked by Easter 2011. In 2012, the foundation stone was consecrated at the foundation of the temple, and the temple received its first service in 2013.
Architecture
The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is still under construction, but its outstanding architecture is already arousing interest and pleases with old Russian motifs. The imposing building looks very light, thanks to the snow-white color of the walls, carved and keeled elements. According to the project, it will accommodate 650 people, the height of the church is 48.5 meters, the total area is more than 700 square meters.
The church consists of four, gradually narrowing tiers, the top one serves as a belfry with a light drum topped with an onion dome. Three semicircular apses adjoin the main room. The author of the project, architect Alexander Pronin, drew ideas and style from the era of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. To repeat some elements of the decor of that time, almost every brick was hewn individually, by hand.
Service schedule and address
Since 2015 the templeThe New Martyrs in Strogino opened the doors for divine services. Today, interior finishing work is underway; by the beginning of 2017, the stage of laying the marble floor has been completed. There are several public Orthodox organizations operating at the church - a Sunday school, a youth club, help and enlightenment circles (a prison ministry group, ACA, a social service, a knitting circle, etc.).
Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino, service schedule:
- Early liturgical service on weekdays starts at 07:00.
- Late Liturgy on weekdays at 08:00, evening service starts at 18:00.
- Saturday morning service - 07:00 and 08:00, evening vigil is held from 18:00.
- Sunday: morning services - 07:00 and 10:00, akathist - 17:00, vespers and matins at 18:00.
You can come to the temple by public transport: to the Strogino metro station, then walk to the place where the Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is located. Many people like the photo of the church under construction, but in reality it claims to be the pearl of new architecture. The church is open daily until 22:00.
