Majestic, resembling a fabulous tower, the Kazan Church in Voronezh is located in one of the oldest districts of the city. Today, the temple is considered a historical monument of architecture and the main attraction of Voronezh.
History
In the 17th century, on the left bank of the Voronezh River, a small settlement of Otrozhka was formed, consisting of only 6 households. By the 19th century, the village had grown to a population of around 700.
To meet their religious needs, the inhabitants of Otrozhka were forced to go to the Nativity Church, which was located two miles from their village. In this connection, the believers of Ostrozhka decided to build their own church. A wasteland was chosen as the place, where a local resident had a vision of the icon of the Kazan Mother of God.
In 1903, according to the project of the architect V. Gain, the construction of the Kazan Church began. The details of its construction and the date of completion of construction are not known for certain. But in historical documents there is a mention that the Kazan Church (Voronezh) was consecrated in the fall of 1911.
Even during constructionThe temple building was next to a church graveyard, which has survived to this day. The foundation stone with the date of the consecration of the necropolis, June 2, 1908, is still preserved at the cemetery. Also, the temple was supplemented by the building of the zemstvo school, houses for clergy and outbuildings.
Soviet times
After the October Revolution, the church was at the disposal of the Gregorian schismatics, and in 1936 it was closed by order of the Soviet authorities. During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was practically destroyed.
The looted and defiled shrine stood in the middle of rural houses, gaping with empty window openings. Not only church inventory was taken out of the building, but also window frames were removed and wooden floors were dismantled.
In 1946, at the request of the believing townspeople, the regional executive committee gave permission to open the Kazan Church in Voronezh. Through the efforts of enterprising parishioners, everything possible was done to restore the temple. They repaired shell holes in the walls, glazed the windows, laid a new floor, and whitewashed the church. The iconostasis was installed in 1954.
Major restoration work in the Kazan Church began in the late 80s. The outer walls have found their original appearance, the brickwork has been partially replaced. In the 90s, the painting of the temple was re-made. In 2009, the crosses on the domes were replaced.

Current State
Today, on an area of 15 hectares, there is a whole temple complex with numerous buildings.
Kazan Church (Voronezh) is made in pseudo-Russian style. The brick building with white columns is built in the shape of a cross with five blue domes. The interior of the temple surprises with its richness and splendor.
In the late 90s, a Sunday school was built on the territory of the Kazan Church with a baptismal church in the name of Seraphim of Sarov and a water-blessing chapel, consecrated in the name of St. Andrew the First-Called.

The doors of the Kazan Church are open to parishioners daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Divine Liturgy at 7:30 am and Vespers at 5:00 pm
On holidays and weekends, the schedule of services in the Kazan Church (Voronezh) may change. Usually two liturgies are celebrated on these days.
Also, liturgies are held on Sundays at the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov at 8:30 a.m.
