Today, many are wondering: where are the relics of Peter and Fevronia? In fact, this amazing story with the solemn transfer of the relics of the holy pious family from the cathedral church of the Annunciation Lavra to the Holy Trinity Convent successfully ended on September 19, 1992. With the blessing of Archbishop Evlogy of Vladimir and Suzdal, for the first time in the past godless seventy years, a great procession was held, which brought together a huge number of Orthodox people.
Murom: relics of Peter and Fevronia, monastery
This event for the city of Murom marked the beginning of the spiritual revival of church life after a long forbidden period. To the sound of bells, the entire solemn procession moved along the city streets from the Annunciation Monastery to the gates of the Holy Trinity Convent, where a special platform was built for the tomb, where the relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia were subsequently delivered. In the open air next to the walls of the monastery, Archbishop Evlogii served a festive moleben and spoke withpreaching. In the cozy monastery monastery, the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia finally found peace. Their relics rest in their proper place, as they have finally completed their wanderings, which lasted throughout the 20th century.
Ancient city, glorious city
The ancient city of Murom was first mentioned by Nestor the Chronicler in his cultural and historical literary heritage - "The Tale of Bygone Years". In 862, together with other cities, after the calling of the Varangians, he submitted to Prince Rurik.
The Holy Trinity Monastery is located in the very center of Murom, in a place called Staroe Vyshnee Gorodishche. Several centuries ago, the first city Kremlin was located there. And now here you can see the Annunciation and Holy Trinity monasteries. This place in the city is considered one of the most prayerful, so it was not in vain that Saints Peter and Fevronia were buried here. The relics of their saints have now become a real treasure not only for the monastery, but for the entire city.
Saint Constantine
According to legend, in the 12th century, the noble prince Konstantin became the baptizer of the land of Murom, who began to build the first Orthodox churches here. He is mentioned in The Tale of the Placement of Christianity in Murom as the builder of the original Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The iconography of St. Constantine is dedicated to the prince and his two sons - Michael and Fyodor, who are always depicted together in spiritual and prayerful union in the Holy Trinity of the same essence. In this way, there is a motif of comparing the holy couple with Her.
In the Highest settlement, Prince Konstantin later erected the Borisoglebsky temple, which later, more precisely, five hundred years later, turned into the monastery of the Holy Trinity.
Taras Tsvetnov
In the 16th century, the city Kremlin was moved closer to the Oka. From that moment on, Vyshnee Gorodishche became part of the urban settlement. A little more time passed, and instead of the Borisoglebsk church, there was already a wooden Holy Trinity Church.
In 1642, when the church was already pretty dilapidated, the merchant T. B. Tsvetnov decided to build a beautiful and majestic stone church on this site with all kinds of decorative outfits, with the same name, with forged and gilded crosses, representing the masterpieces of blacksmithing works of that century.
When the cathedral was ready, Tsvetnov turned to the Bishop of Ryazan and Murom with a request to establish a maiden monastery on this site. For the monastic economy, he even donated his plot of land, located next to the church, and in addition bought out the neighboring ones. He gave precious contributions to the new monastery: a cross, an altar Gospel, a water-blessed cup, a censer, etc.
Forgetting time
Under the Soviet regime, few people knew about the holy miracle workers Peter and Fevronia, even in church circles they were not very popular. It took a lot of effort to get their icon or akathist. But in Murom, Orthodox residents could not but know and revere their holy countrymen. When the relics were in the Soviet religious museum, so to speak, "under a bushel", the believers tried by any meansvenerate the holy place where Saints Peter and Fevronia rested. The relics really helped everyone who came with their kind and sincere prayers, because in this God-created world everything is connected by invisible ties.
Today, many guests come to Murom for the celebration dedicated to the memory of the Holy Family. Peter and Fevronia are saints who complemented each other in everything, and therefore for believers they have become a great example of an ideal married couple. Their patronage is now, more than ever, necessary for all of us, the weak, because the family is the remnant of paradise on our sinful earth.
Gold embroidery craftswoman nun Fevroniya
One of the first Murom gold-embroidered craftswomen was our holy and righteous Princess Fevronia. In her secluded cell, she embroidered church airs and shrouds, such special vestments for the throne. Before appearing before the Lord, she just finished embroidering the air. But her husband Peter sent her news that he was dying and hurried her on. She asked him to wait a little, but then two more news came, in the last he said that he no longer had the strength to wait for her. And then, having stuck a needle in her work, she put it aside and departed to another world on the same day with her pious husband.
After many years, the modern monastery still lives its quiet prayer life. Following the example of St. Fevronia, nuns embroider icons with facial sewing. Abbess Tabitha blessed her mothers by the beginning of the revival of this arts and crafts withthe very first days of the opening of the convent. Now the memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia is celebrated in the Orthodox Church twice a year - on July 8 and September 19.
Murom has always been rich in history and holy ascetics. The relics of Peter and Fevronia are now in the Holy Trinity Convent, and the saints are revered in Russia as patrons of family and marriage. On the territory of the monastery there is a holy spring and a chapel built in honor of the faithful Peter and Fevronia. The monastery also keeps the Vilna cross reliquary.
A Brief History of Life
The love story of princes Peter and Fevronya for many centuries is more like some beautiful legend about love. Back in the time of Ivan the Terrible, on the instructions of Metropolitan Macarius of Moscow, it was first heard in Murom and recorded by priest Yermolai the Sinful.
Once upon a time, the land of Murom was ruled by Prince Pavel. At one time, the Unclean Serpent got into the habit of flying to his wife for fornication, before her he appeared in the guise of a husband. She immediately told her husband about this, who ordered her to find out with tender speeches from the one from which he was waiting for his death. The humble wife at the next meeting found out that Peter Agrikov would kill him with the sword. Paul did indeed have a brother, Peter, and he told him about the Serpent. Peter was ready to fight the insidious evil spirits, but where can I get the Agric sword?
Sword
Once Peter was praying in the temple, and then a young man came up to him and pointed to the masonry in the monastery wall, where the cherished sword was hidden. Peter took it and went to his brother, and unexpectedly caught the Serpent inhis sorcerous appearance near his daughter-in-law. Then he struck him with a sword with a mortal blow, from which the unclean one died, but his blood fell on Peter. After that, he fell ill, and fetid scabs appeared on his body. Not a single doctor took up his treatment. But there was one village healer and a wise maiden from the village of Laskovo, Ryazan land, whose name was Fevronia. She promised him healing if he would marry her. The prince could not afford to marry a commoner, but Fevronia still managed to arrange everything so that he was forced to marry her.
Happy reign
When brother Paul died, Peter took the throne. But the boyars disliked his wife, they offered her a ransom so that she retired from the city. Fevronia promised to leave the city, but only with her husband. Peter was faithful to his wife and, without hesitation, decided to go with her. The boyars were very happy about this, but from that moment they began internecine strife, this struggle for the throne brought them to murders that had no end. Then, with great remorse, they came to bow to Prince Peter and Fevronia, who on their boats had not yet had time to sail far from the city. They brought them back. After that, the city began to live calmly and peacefully.
The denouement of the story
When the pious couple grew old, Peter and Fevronia decided to take the tonsure with the names David and Efrosinya. Being monastics, they began to pray to the Lord to send them death on the same day, and even prepared for themselves a common coffin with a special partition. The saints really reposed on the same day, but the priests did not bury the monks in the same coffin, fearing the wrath of God. Their dead bodies were placed overnight in different churches. When morning came, everyone saw that the saints, in some unusual way, ended up in the same coffin. And they were separated again, but they were together again, and then it was decided never to separate Peter and Fevronia again. The saints departed to the Lord in 1228, June 25 (July 8).
In 1547, Saints Peter and Fevronia were canonized, their relics until a certain time were kept in the Holy Trinity Monastery.
Chamomile Holiday
Thanks to their righteous life, everyone now has the opportunity to visit the famous city of Murom. Peter and Fevronia, if you pray to their holy relics and ask for protection in family life, they will always help, you just need to do it with deep faith.
Now July 8 is established as a holiday of family and love, in 2008 it was officially approved. The initiator was the wife of the then President Svetlana Medvedeva. Chamomile became the symbol of the holiday.
