Archbishop Luke (Valentin Voyno-Yasenetsky) became famous as a world-famous surgeon and at the same time as a holy miracle worker. All his life he saved hopeless patients, helped all the suffering. Having a diploma with honors, Valentin Feliksovich preferred the work of a “peasant doctor” to a scientific career. Sometimes, without the necessary tools, the doctor used an ordinary penknife, tongs, a quill pen, and even a woman's hair. Such was St. Luke, whose icon now represents him with a surgical instrument in his hands. As a scholar, Valentin Voyno-Yasenetsky published many scientific works, and as a priest, he became the author of twelve volumes of sermons.
