Moscow region has a huge number of memorable historical places. Peredelkino is one of them. This place is well known not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders.

A bit of history

In ancient times, the village of Spasskoe-Lukino was located in these places. Since that time, some cultural and architectural monuments of great historical significance have miraculously survived. One of these priceless monuments is the Church of the Transfiguration.

In the 17th century, the temple in Peredelkino (Spasskoye-Lukino) began to be surrounded by peasant huts. Soon this place was called Peredelka. The village of Lukino became the center of the estate.

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior was first mentioned in 1646. By the beginning of the 18th century, documents already describe two churches, including Spasskaya.

The wooden Church of the Savior in Peredelkino had a stone church attached to it, which was consecrated in the name of Dmitry Rostov.

At the beginning of the 19th century, many settlements near Moscow suffered greatly from the barbaric devastation by the French. In Lukin, many peasant yards and a manor house were destroyed by fire. Same fatecomprehended and Izmalkovo. It remains a mystery why the French spared the temple in Peredelkino. Despite the fact that some of the property was stolen, the most valuable relics were preserved, thanks to the rector John Yakovlev, who managed to bury the main relics in the ground.

In 1815, a stone Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior was built in the village. This building is considered a striking example of classicism.

When the estate began to belong to Bode-Kolychev, the appearance of the building changed. Artistic elements of temple art of the 17th century appeared on the building. From that building to our time, the keeled portal, the royal gates and the iconostasis of the 17th century “survived”. Wall painting, choir stalls date back to 1950.

After the Revolution, the shrine (oddly enough) was not destroyed. In 1924, they were going to close the temple, a decision had already been made, but for some reason this was not done.

Residence of the Patriarch

In 1952, a solemn event took place in Peredelkino. This historical place became the official residence of the Patriarch of All Russia, who, I must say, fell in love with this place with all his heart. The creation of the residence of the Patriarch breathed new life into Peredelkino. The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was renovated. There was a cemetery nearby. Many famous people found eternal rest here - clergymen, writers (K. Chukovsky, B. Pasternak and others).

The Holy Transfiguration Shrine has been the Patriarch's residence since 1991.

Church of Igor Chernigovsky in Peredelkino

This wonderful idea of building a church near the Patriarch's residence is the merit of Patriarch Alexy II. He approved the original project in 2005 and decided to consecrate the temple in the name of Prince Igor of Chernigov and Kyiv. Alexy II personally chose the best place and blessed the beginning of the construction of the temple.

After four years of hard work of the best craftsmen, our capital, magnificent Moscow, received a new temple. Peredelkino was decorated with an exquisite temple-terem, which combines elements of many styles of Russian architecture.

Porcelain domes of different colors are crowned with huge crosses. The facades, finished with bright rich majolica, give a feeling of joy. The temple rises on a hillock, and its original form, freshness and unusual architectural design invariably attract the eyes of guests.

Moscow is famous for many historical monuments. Peredelkino is now rightfully proud of the temple built in our time. Its interior decoration is unusual in terms of artistic solution and form. It gives an extraordinary feeling of openness and spaciousness, lightness and breadth, full of joy and light.

The semantic center of the temple in Peredelkino, as indeed, in all Orthodox churches, is a snow-white, gilded ceramic iconostasis. Icon cases with images perfectly harmonize with him,made in the same style. Ornamental belts visually divide the walls into sectors, emphasizing their whiteness and adding a touch of fabulousness.

In January 2010, His Holiness the Patriarch consecrated the stone laid at the foundation of the church in Peredelkino.

On June 17, 2012, the cathedral church of Igor Chernigovsky in Peredelkino was consecrated and the first liturgy was served.

Temple arrangement

The church is designed for 1200 parishioners. Just like the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the cathedral in Peredelkino has a stylobate and a basement.

The authors who designed the porcelain domes have been searching for a long time for a solution to a seemingly insoluble problem - how to create original church domes that would be radically different from others and at the same time would be reliable and durable.

The central dome of the temple has a diameter of 10 meters. Its main color is bright blue, which goes well with other colors.

A park and garden ensemble adjoins the temple, with a part of an old building that miraculously survived and an obelisk dedicated to famous personalities from the boyar family of the Kolychevs, to which Philip, the primate of the Orthodox Church of Russia in the 16th century, belonged.

This is one of the most revered and beloved saints in our country. The descendants of the saint, the Kolychevs, made their own estate and temple a place of worship for the memory of this saint.

Monument to the Grand Duke

Beforethe temple on the square erected a monument to the Grand Duke Igor, as well as to St. Philip. Both saints became victims of political struggle. The monument symbolizes their unity, fortitude in the tragic moments of Russian history. In June 2013, the monument was consecrated.

The magnificent temple in Peredelkino is a striking example of modern temple architecture. The work of many people who designed and built this temple, who invested their talent, soul, prayers, strength and knowledge in this holy cause, was appreciated by ordinary believers and clergymen. Today, the temple in Peredelkino, picturesquely rushing upward with majestic domes, attracts the attention and hearts of Christians with its beauty.
