Not so long ago, the Church of the Intercession on Lyshchikova Hill was transferred to the ownership of the Russian Orthodox Church. Today the building is a cultural heritage of federal significance.
The history of the appearance of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on Lyshchikova Hill
Initially, on the site where the church was built, there was a monastery. In the 17th century, the Church of the Intercession was built on Lyshchikova Hill. A few decades after the construction, the temple was damaged in a fire, and it was decided to build a new building, but already at the foot of the mountain.
So at the turn of the 16th-17th centuries, a new Church of the Intercession appeared on Lyshchikova Hill, or rather, at its foot. The consecration of the church took place a couple of years after construction.
Later a two-tier bell tower was rebuilt. The entrance to the bell tower was on the western side of the temple. There was a porch under the bell tower.
At the end of the 18th century, Likharev I. A. rebuilt the refectory into a part of the chapel, which was dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
During the 100-year period of its existence, the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on Lyshchikova Hill survived two major fires. In both casesthe church has been restored. After the last repair work, the temple was consecrated again.
At the beginning of the 19th century, thanks to the financial influence of the Sergeyev merchants, the refectory was expanded to the north. This construction made it possible to form another chapel. But because of the attack of Napoleon, the construction could not be completed. The church was destroyed and, worst of all, the enemy soldiers desecrated it. The current rector of the temple at that time was transferred to serve in another temple.
It was not possible to hold services in such conditions, so the parishioners were transferred to the church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was located in the village of Yamy. The temple was completely restored already in 1814.
USSR Times
During the reign of the Communists, the Church of the Intercession on Lyshchikova Gora was not closed or restructured, which was a rarity in times of persecution. On the contrary, from churches that were nearby and were converted into hostels or other public organizations, they brought icons for storage.
At the end of the seventies of the last century, a new bailiff was completed in honor of the closed temple of Simeon the Stylite.
The temple also managed to survive the Second World War, thanks to the fact that it was defended by parishioners. To prevent the Bolsheviks from removing the bells from the bell tower, they were smeared either with paint, or with tar or feces. As a result, the soldiers disdained to touch them.
The biggest bell weighs about 2000 kg. To date, onboth old and new bells hang in the bell tower of the temple.
In the middle of the last century, due to the fact that the Soviet authorities took away all the church premises, there were not enough cloisters. Therefore, in the Intercession Church, one of the stairs had to be dismantled and another extension made. After all the buildings were returned to the parish, the extension was not dismantled.
Temple Architecture
Initially, the construction of the temple was rounded. Later, already in 1838, an extension of an unusual shape appeared. Its rounded eastern part generalized the fractional part of the asp.
This solution fit perfectly into the architecture of the late Empire. It was during this period that the integrity of the entire architectural composition from the side of the street was valued.
This extension turned out to be a link between the facade of the building and the arched niches.
Those walls that face the lane are finished with rough masonry. The old walls are decorated with stucco elements. Angled vanes are very similar in appearance to pilasters. The blind drum is decorated with a row of miniature kokoshniks.
All the main work on architecture was carried out at the expense of two elders - Stuzhin and Bernikov. The parable's house was built at the expense of the latter.
