Secrets of the past cannot be forgotten. People remember them for centuries. Many are supplemented with new facts and become even more creepy and mysterious, but still alluring. One of these stories is the mystery of the Mountain of the Dead. The Dyatlov Pass became widely known in 1959, when skiers of the Dyatlov group died there under mysterious circumstances.

A lot has been written about the death of nine people. Books and films have been released. In the latter, a version was put forward, according to which people died in the course of research by the Soviet military and scientists who experimented with human teleportation. The Mountain of the Dead has given rise to hundreds of disputes. The most insane versions of what happened were developed and discussed. Some argued that the UFO was to blame. Others attributed everything to Bigfoot or ghosts from the past. One thing was known for sure - the person had nothing to do with it at all. As it turned out later, the Mountain of the Dead got its name a long time ago and not by chance. What drives people whodecided to climb the mountain? Probably, the students of the Dyatlov group should have chosen a different route from the beginning.

Mount Holatchakhl and Otorten Peak are located on the Poyasovyi Kamen Ridge. They have long been known to the Mansi people as a place that everyone should always avoid. Otorten in translation into Russian sounds like “do not go there”, and Holatchakhl means “Mountain of the Dead”. It was on the pass between them that a group of nine young people died in 1959.

The secret of the Mountain of the Dead was known to the Mansi people from the very beginning of their existence. This people has a legend passed down through generations. It tells that 13 thousand years ago there was a worldwide flood. As a result of this, all people on the planet died, except for 11 representatives of this people. They climbed to the very top of Holatchakhl hoping to escape. But the merciless waves carried people away one by one. In the end, only two remained - a woman and a man. Only after that the waves subsided, and the water began to recede. After some time, the survivors descended into the valley. So the Mansi people were revived. Since then, this place has been called the "Mountain of the Dead" in memory of people who gave their lives to angry gods.

Researchers are especially interested in the fact that both then and in 1959 exactly nine people died. The Mansi people consider this number symbolic. For them, it means the end of the old life and the beginning of a new one. According to legend, after the flood, shamans broughtthe mountain of the victim - these were animals in the amount of 9 pieces. However, it didn't seem to help.

The tourists of the Dyatlov group are not the only ones who died on this ill-fated pass. In total, this place claimed 27 lives. In 1960-1961, 9 geologists died in air crashes. In 1961, 9 corpses of tourists from Leningrad were found there. More recently, in 2003, a helicopter with 9 passengers crashed over the mountain. People miraculously managed to survive. Why does this place attract death? What is its mystery, and what secrets does the mountain pass keep? Whether there will ever be an exact answer to these questions is unknown.
