History of the Holy Cross Church in Belgorod
As you know, in 1862 a small church was built in Belgorod. It was called the Ex altation of the Cross. The book "Belgorod with the district", which was published in 1882, describes the events consecrating the construction of the temple. It says here that the church was built at the expense of the merchants Mukhanovs (Egor and Nikolai were famous winemakers) and Countess Lastovskaya A. V.
According to another version, indicated in the "Historical Bulletin" in 1910, it is said that the temple was built at the expense of another person - Anna BogdanovichVarlamovna.
Historians report that a mistake may have been made in the date of construction. At the moment, it is no longer possible to determine the exact date of construction. Differences in historical sources about the funds used to build the temple are explained by the fact that donations could be made from different people and at different times.
The Ex altation of the Cross Church in Belgorod was built in the style of Russian architecture of the 17th century. It is an example of provincial architecture. The temple is part of the Belgorod-Starooskol diocese.
In 2010, a chapel was built on the territory of the temple. It was consecrated in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Sign".
Shrines
The main shrine of the Ex altation of the Cross Church in Belgorod is the miraculous Kosharsky Cross. A parishioner cannot but pay attention to this shrine when entering the temple.
This cross belonged to a very rich landowner who lived in the village of Koshary in the 18th century. This cross was sent to him by his brother, who was a novice of the Athos monastery.
The story of the Holy Cross is interesting and fascinating. The fact is that the rich landowner was known as a stern person, not a believer. He did not like the fact that there was a shrine in his house, he refused to believe in the miraculous power of the Cross.
One day, after returning from hunting, the landowner was in a bad mood. He ordered the Cross to be thrown into the bog near the house, saying that it was of no use.
Later, after the death of the landowner, one blind man hearda voice that asked to pull the cross out of the quagmire. The shrine was taken out, and the blind man received his sight by touching the miraculous Cross.
The cross was placed on the stage, believers began to come to it, it healed many. Later, the cross was transferred to a small chapel, then to the Nicholas Monastery in Belgorod. The shrine was transferred to the Holy Cross Cathedral in 1863, where it remains today.
Currently, a large number of pilgrims from all over the country come to the Holy Cross. The shrine helps and heals many.
