What does it mean to be a principled person?

Often we hear about ourselves or other people such phrases as "go on principle", "be principled", these phrases have become firmly established in everyday life and are used almost daily in the most ordinary conversations. Principal people are those who act solely in accordance with their beliefs and attitudes. But this does not mean at all that actions in accordance with personal principles can be 100% appropriate and their positive or negative color depends on the beliefs held by a particular person.

What is integrity? For example, a person's life attitudes suggest that he fights for the truth, knowing that this struggle will bring some problems, but nevertheless does not give up his principles. Such behavior can only be approved, the person was not afraid, not afraid of trouble, we can conclude that the truth for this person is more important than his own comfort and well-being.

How does positive principle manifest itself?

What is integrity and how to detect it? Most of the time it shows up in the details. For example, many people as a matter of principle do not give bribes, do not wear gifts to leaders, even if they know that such an act may be necessary, it can help move up the career ladder, and so on.

But the fact remains, a person cannot go away from his principles only if these are true and correct beliefs. This integrity and honesty can be considered positive, it should be accepted and supported.

Negative integrity

But unfortunately, there is also a stupid adherence to principles, which is based not on high ideals, but on an unhe althyperseverance. For example, two friends quarreled, and both do not want to put up because of some strange principles that only interfere with life. The result is a complete rupture of friendly relations from scratch. There may be such an option: a person performs some tasks, competent people criticize his work and give advice on how to do better.

In fact, a person must listen to the opinion, analyze their actions and decide whether the advice is worth it or not. But sometimes principles come into play, which does not bring anything good to anyone. Even knowing that he is wrong, a person will act in his own way contrary to common sense. Here, the basis is not a craving for truth, but the most common pride, which is considered one of the most serious sins.

How can good turn into evil?

Often there are situations when the principles seem right, but something goes wrong, and good works for evil not only for the person himself, but also for others. A good example of the problem of adherence to principles is the story of a monk who, on principle, spoke only the truth all his life. Seems like nothing wrong, right? But not everything is so simple, once he saw how people were hiding in a cave from forest robbers, the entrance to which was disguised by bushes. The robbers were confused and turned to the monk with a question where the fugitives had disappeared. In fact, the monk was supposed to save innocent people, but by virtue of his principles, he without hesitation revealed the place where the fugitives were hiding.

It turns out that the monk did wrong, it seems that he did not betray hisprinciples, but violated much more important life principles - the need to be faithful to goodness and justice.
