The city of Izhevsk has about ten different churches. One of them is a young and beautiful Orthodox church of St. Seraphim of Sarov. This holy miracle worker is loved and revered not only in Udmurtia, but also in all Orthodox cities of Russia.
Temple History
The Temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk was built with donations from the local population in 2013.
The history of its construction is very difficult - the townspeople have been waiting for the opening of the temple for more than ten years. Back in 1999, local authorities allocated a small plot in a wasteland for its construction.
There is one detail - the construction of a large temple was originally planned in honor of the prophet Elijah, and not Seraphim of Sarov. But then the need to restore St. Michael's Cathedral became acute. It was decided to deal with the cathedral first. And all the money intended for the construction of the temple of Elijah was transferred to the account of St. Michael's Church.
After the reconstruction of the cathedral, there was no money left to build a large temple. Then we decided to build a smallChurch in honor of the miracle worker Seraphim of Sarov. Large financial assistance was provided by various enterprises of Izhevsk.
Funds for the construction of the temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk were collected by the whole world. Thus, within five years, 48.5 million rubles were collected, and construction began.
In total, 100 million rubles were spent on the construction of the church.
During the entire time the construction was going on, every Sunday, near the future temple, believers gathered together with the clergy and read the akathist to Seraphim of Sarov.
Description
The Temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk was built in the style of traditional Russian architecture with a hipped dome. The building is low, elongated horizontally. If you look at the temple from above, then a cross will be visible at its base. This is due to the fact that the two buildings of the church are connected by a passage.
The interior of the upper temple is made in restrained colors. There are no paintings on the walls, and all the icons are made of wood. Initially, it was planned to make the entire temple wooden, but fearing fires, this idea was abandoned.
In the church, as it should be according to the old Orthodox traditions, they do not trade. Of course, there is a church shop on the territory, but in the very temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk you can freely take a candle and light it.
There is a unique font in the height of a man, lined with mosaics. In it, you can baptize not only an adult, but at the same time a whole family. The floor of the font is lined with fancy mosaics in the Byzantine style.
At the temple there is a Sunday school where the Church Slavonic language is studied.
On the site in front of the temple there is a monument to Seraphim of Sarov, 3.6 meters high, which is impossible not to notice. The miracle worker is on his knees and in prayer stretches out his hands to heaven. The author of the monument is a local sculptor P. Medvedev. He depicted the elder at the moment of the end of the prayer feat, and the descent of the spirit of God on him.
The territory of the temple is fully landscaped and fenced. There is a park with paved paths, comfortable benches, coniferous plantations and a playground. Good lighting. You can come here for a walk with your children.
