Church of the Life-Giving Trinity

Trinity Church was consecrated in 1564 and is considered not only the oldest functioning Orthodox church in the city, but also the oldest stone building in Tver. It was built on the donation of the merchant G. Tushinsky according to the project of the local architect G. Makov.

The building of the temple was built of brick, plastered and whitewashed. Initially, it had no more than 3 domes, but as a result of restructuring, it acquired 7 domes.

There are many different legends associated with the Trinity Cathedral. One of them says that under the building of the temple there is an underground passage in which the inhabitants of the city hid during enemy raids.

Resurrection Cathedral

The construction of the cathedral began in 1913 and was dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. The construction was financed by the royal family according to the project of N. Omelyusty. The building was conceived as one of the churches of the Nativity monastery.

The cathedral was built in the neo-Russian style in the form of a cube and a drum with a helmet-shaped dome. From the west, a vestibule with choirs adjoins the building, the northern and southern vestibules are framed by buttresses. The walls of the temple are built of brick and covered with cement plaster. Inside the church is not painted.

In the Soviet years, the temple was used as a warehouse. He returned to the bosom of the Tver diocese in 1988, and in 2010 was restored. Located at: st. Barrikadnaya, 1.

Ascension Cathedral

The temple was built in 1760 and is located in the very center of Tver. The cathedral was built in the Empire style on the site of the wooden Church of the Epiphany that burned down in a fire. In 1836, according to the project of I. Lvov, it was completely rebuilt in the style of classicism.

The temple was the decoration of the city. White stone was used in the construction. The walls are painted with ocher and painted both inside and outside. The dome and the cross were covered with gilding. Window frames and doors are made of bog oak. In the decoration and design of the building every detail was thought out. The church of that time looked very majestic.

Since 1922 the temple has been closed. During the years of the Sovietauthorities, he was not once subjected to building changes. The Ascension Cathedral of the Tver diocese was returned in 1991.

Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God

The church was built in 1774 on the Tmaka River. The building was built in the baroque style in the form of an octagon on a quadrangle, which gives the temple the impression of aspiration upwards.

People call the church "House of the Virgin" and from afar attracts the eye with its beauty and expressiveness. The dimensions of the temple are small - the hipped roof has only 1 cupola. Thanks to its simplified architectural forms, without pomp and frills, the church gives the impression of a cozy and festive.

In Soviet times, the building fell into disrepair and was in disrepair. Refurbishment work began in 1987. In 1992, divine services were resumed in the temple, which are held to this day.

Resurrection Church of the Three Confessors

Built in 1731 with donations from the merchant G. Sedov on the left bank of the Volga. The material for the construction was brick and white stone. During the construction of the church, three architectural styles were combined at the same time - Baroque, Classicism and Empire.

In 1805, the temple was completely renovated and re-consecrated. In 1822, according to the project of K. Rossi, the southern chapel was erected in honor of the icon of the Virgin "Search for the Lost", which is a revered shrinetemple.

As a result of several alterations, the original appearance of the temple was lost. The original baroque decor was cut down and replaced with the current one.

Catherine's Church

Among the significant temples and churches of Tver, it is necessary to mention Catherine's Cathedral. It was consecrated in 1781 and is the cathedral church of the Catherine's Convent. It has 3 chapels: Great Martyr Catherine, John the Baptist and Nicholas the Pleasant.

The church was built in the Baroque style with elements of classicism. There is a historical opinion that Catherine II granted a large sum of money for the construction of a religious building.

In 1819, the walls of the church were decorated with fancy paintings. In 1885 a new porch was built. In 1852 the bell tower was rebuilt. In 1906, a chapel was built in honor of Seraphim of Sarov.

In the 1930s, the Communists equipped a garage with workshops in Catherine's Church. In 1941, the temple building was destroyed by military destruction.

Services in the temple resumed in 1989.
