The commandments of Christ appeared centuries ago, but they can be called relevant even today. Initially, they were all written literally, that is, it was not necessary to fantasize in order to understand their real meaning. Today, only a few of them are oriented towards direct interpretation. The rest must be interpreted. However, they - like classics, have always been and will be.
All the commandments of Christ are often compared to the laws of nature. This means that they are not just elements that should be adhered to and must not be violated, but also complement each other. On the one hand, they help to find a soul, fill it with virtues and give up various temptations and instincts that were previously characteristic of a person. On the other hand, they help people acquire a moral basis, so that they help their loved ones, not because it needs to be done or will be paid for, but of their own free will.
Number | Description | Meaning |
1 | In the first commandment, the Lord calls for the fact that he is the only God, and there is no substitute for him | Despite the fact that the Lord here is rather selfish in describing himself, the true meaning of the commandment is that a person must understand himself and find the physical and mental foundation of activity |
2 | Called to not look for idols | The writing of this commandment of Christ is focused on a time when paganism was literally a disease of all mankind. And then it had to be taken literally. Today, idols have changed significantly, they have turned into we alth, fame, or, for example, science. However, the creation of an idol does not lead to anything good, neither before nor today |
3 | Called to not use the name of the Lord for no reason, in vain | Based on this commandment, it becomes clear that the name of God cannot be used where it is simply inappropriate. It can be jokes, exclamations or even curses |
4 | Called to spend six days in labor and one to rest | Like God himself, man is commanded to work most of his time, but do not forget about rest. Take some time for yourself at least once a week |
5 | Called to honor parents | Despite the fact that in this commandment of Christparents are indicated, it should be understood not only literally. The fact is that with its help, the Lord wanted to call people to respect everyone around them, regardless of age, gender or race |
6 | Called to stop killing | You cannot take the life of another person, regardless of the amount of his sins or malice. God gives life to people, and you should not put yourself in his place to control other people's destinies |
7 | Called to renounce adultery | The commandment is not focused on giving up procreation. Today, its interpretation refers to fidelity. That is, two spouses should not cheat on each other, they should resist the temptation |
8 | Called to stop stealing | The commandment describes that a person should be content only with what he has, or with what he has earned on his own. You can't take someone else's |
9 | Called to stop gossip and false accusations | Any liar is called an unworthy Christian. This is due to the fact that lying is a behavior that cannot be attributed to such virtues as respect and love |
10 | Called to give up envy | You can't be jealous of what the other person has. The Lord says that all people need to independently come to the fulfillment of their desires, and if one was able to achieve something, then only zeal helped him in this, but not envy at all |
It is impossible to single out the main commandments of Jesus Christ, since they are all equal to each other. If a person takes time to resist the temptation of adultery, but does not respect his parents, relatives, friends or neighbors, then it can be said that he does not adhere to the laws of Christianity at all. It should be noted that the commandments are spelled out rather briefly, they, of course, limit people, but to a greater extent leave them complete freedom. Only the person himself has the right to choose the scope of his activity, profession and all other elements that will make up his life.
