Life Story
Healer Panteleimon was born in Nicomedia and was given the name Pantoleon at birth. Pantoleon's mother died early and did not have time to raise her only son in the Christian faith, so the future saint studied first in a pagan school. After graduation, Pantoleon studied the art of healing with the famous doctor of Nicomedia - Euphrosynus, thanks to whom he came to the court of Emperor Maximian (years of life 284-305).
In his youth, having met the Hieromartyr Yermolai, Pantoleon learns about Christianity and begins to revere the Lord Jesus Christ. There was such a case when Pantoleon begged from Jesus Christ the life of a dead child bitten by a viper. When the child came to life, Pantoleon believed in Christ and was baptized, and at baptism he received the name Panteleimon, which means All-Merciful.
Building Faith
Panteleimon devoted his whole life to the poor, the sick, the suffering and the poor. He treated them, visited and healed the prisoners in the dungeon. Soon the whole city was going to be treated only by Panteleimon. This, of course, could not please other doctors, and they slandered their competitor before the emperor. Panteleimon was betrayed by the most perverted andcruel torment, and then thrown into a cage to be torn to pieces by animals. But the animals did not touch the saint. Then the emperor ordered to cut off his head. All the while the bullying continued, Panteleimon fervently sent up prayers to the Lord Jesus Christ. When the guard raised the sword over the head of the healer, the iron of the sword turned into wax, the heavens opened up and everyone heard the Voice, which addressed Panteleimon by name and called him to the Kingdom of Heaven. The executioners, seeing and hearing this, refused to carry out the order of the emperor, but Panteleimon asked them to fulfill the order in order to meet later. After cutting off the head, not blood, but milk flowed from the wound. The body thrown into the fire did not burn, the Christians then buried it in the ground. Since then, Panteleimon has been considered the patron saint of doctors and the sick.
