The separation of one substance from another in science is called "separation". But the same term is used in psychology. From the Latin language separatio is translated as "separation". It should be understood that if certain tools are used for separation in technology, then in psychology this term is used to refer to a certain period in the life of parents and children. It is easy to guess that this is the process of separating the child from mom and dad. In this article, we will consider in more detail what separation is in technology and psychology.
Process
In order to separate one substance from another, there are many different ways. The choice of one or the other depends on the characteristics of the components in the mixture. So, in order to purify flour from unwanted impurities and debris, air separation is used, and gravitational separation is used to separate blood into fractions. In the latter case, due todifference between the density of erythrocytes and plasma, the rapid rotation of the separator drum leads to the fact that the formed elements settle to the bottom, and the serum rises up.
Magnetic separation is based on the magnetic properties of materials. It is used in the glass, metallurgical and mining industries. In such separators, a magnetic field is created, which changes the gravitational trajectory of materials. Thus, a substance that contains iron is attracted and separated from the total mass.
In each individual case, the separation process is different and depends on the installation itself. The only thing that unites them is that the chemical composition of the separated substances does not change. This separation method is used in a wide variety of industries:
- mining,
- medicine,
- food industry,
- agriculture,
- metallurgical industry.
Installation for separation (separator) in each case has a different structure, which generally depends on the properties, the percentage composition of the mixture to be separated and the differences in the characteristics of the components. And if, for example, a centrifuge is used for inertial mass separation, then a screen is used to separate bulk materials by size.
Becoming a person
The term separation is also used in psychology. This refers to the separation of a sufficiently adult child from his parents and the beginning of his new independent life. This process does not always go smoothly. And it can depend on many factors. Considering what separation is, notit is worth forgetting that in most cases this is a rather painful process for both parents and the child himself. It should also be understood that separation can be of different types. In addition, it is very important that it be gradual.
Types of separation in psychology
Every child is connected to their parents by an emotional and financial bond. From early childhood, in order to perform certain actions, he needs to obtain the approval of his parents. They provide it and buy everything you need. As we grow older, each connection is broken little by little. In any case, this is how it should happen. But some parents specifically prevent this. There are the following types of separation:
- Emotional - reducing the need for approval of certain actions.
- Functional - independent functioning. The child provides for himself, and also dresses, cooks for himself, does laundry, etc.
- Attitude - characterized by their own views on various events and their opinions in resolving certain issues. The child stops looking at the world through the eyes of parents.
Studying the question "what is separation", it is important to note that each family creates its own process of separation from parents. One child becomes independent already at school age, and the other, even while studying at the institute, will not take a single step without the approval of mom or dad.
Why do parents interfere
The culprits of the protracted separation, as a rule, are adults. They arefind a lot of excuses so that the child stays around as long as possible. And there can be many reasons for this. One and the most important is taking care of your blood. It is love for the child and fear for him that is the main reason that separation occurs too slowly, and sometimes does not occur at all. There are many cases when even an adult man or woman who is well over 30 is still a child. They live with their parents and obey them in everything.
Of course, letting go of your child, even if he is already an adult, can be difficult. I really want to give good advice and share my experience. But on the other hand, it interferes with the child and the formation of his personality. In fact, a puppet grows up, which is very easy to manipulate. But in this case, the question remains: whose life does this child live? Yours or his parents?
Own interests
Sometimes the intentions of parents are quite selfish. The separation of a child can bring a lot of grief into their lives, and by refusing it, they act only in their own interests. For example, a mother raised her son on her own. So he grew up, it is high time for him to create his own family and leave the parental nest. But for mom, it will all end in loneliness.
Or, for example, very often when children grow up, their parents separate. The whole union in such a family rests on one common goal - to raise a child. When this has already happened, it turns out that there is no love between the parents for a long time. Many mothers understand this and do not want to let their children go.
Another rather selfish reason is an attempt to realize oneself or one's dreams in a child. Let's say your mom has a hard life. She gave birth to a daughter early, and her husband abandoned them when the child was still very young. Mom had to raise her daughter alone and work hard. She wants a different life for her child. Mom dreams that her daughter will graduate from the university with the highest score, find a prestigious job, buy an apartment, a car, and then just start looking for a groom. But what if the girl has a different opinion? Perhaps she will be able to marry more successfully than her mother, or is she not at all interested in the career of a business woman? And it is unlikely that a mother's dream will come true, because a daughter who has not gone through the process of separation will not be able to realize herself. Throughout life, she will have a huge baggage of complexes associated with her lack of independence and the inability to make decisions in her life.
When should this happen?
Of course, many are concerned about what age of separation from parents is considered the most optimal. But it is not so easy to answer it. Everything should happen gradually. With proper upbringing, separation begins at preschool age. The child begins to express his opinion. It is very important at this moment to explain to him why this or that is forbidden. Dispute is the most important part in separation. It is in him that his own opinion is born. If a parent forbids a child to argue, he suppresses his personality. From childhood, it is necessary to give the child the right to choose, and then the separation will occur painlessly.
Puberty
Active separation begins in adolescence. At this point, there must be trust between the child and the parent. And not only a teenager should trust, but you should also trust him. Otherwise, separation will occur quite abruptly. A teenager must himself gain experience and get acquainted with life in all its manifestations. The age of separation from parents will depend on this. It needs to happen gradually. Every year the child should have more freedom and less influence from the parents.
Adult children
Separation in adulthood is not uncommon. Most likely, from childhood, the child grows up without the right to choose and trust from the parents. As a result, an adult does not become independent. And over time, such a fate even attracts him. Such people are not particularly eager to find a soul mate, and even if this happens, most often the relationship does not last long. Separation from parents in adulthood can happen if the person actually falls in love. Then he can finally tell his parents a firm "no" and go his own way.
Many psychologists are convinced that if separation does not begin in early childhood, the child grows up withdrawn. The suppression of his personality affects his mental and psychic development.
Studying what separation is, one should not forget that each person has his own way. Mistakes that parents don'twill be able to save - this is a very important and necessary experience. Don't deprive your child of this.
