There is a concept of "man" in psychology, the meaning of which is that a person is a living being with the ability to articulately speak, create something and use the results of his work. A person has consciousness, and consciousness directed at himself is the self-concept of the personality. This is a mobile system of self-assessment of one's intellectual, physical and other qualities, that is, self-assessment under the influence of certain factors throughout life. A person's personality is subject to internal fluctuations and affects all manifestations of life from early childhood to old age.
Today, Rogers' theory of personality is taken as the basis for considering the system of self-esteem of a person. The essence of this theory can be considered as a mechanism of consciousness, reflexively working under the influence of culture, one's own and others' behavior. That is, simply put, a person gives an assessment of a particular situation, to other people and to himself. Self-evaluation encourages him to certain behavior and forms a self-concept.
One of the central concepts in psychology is the self-concept of personality, although until nowthere is no single terminology and definition. Carl Ransome Rogers himself believed that his method is effective in working with a variety of psychotypes and is suitable for working with people of different cultures, professions, religions. Rogers formed his point of view based on his own experience with his clients who have any kind of emotional disorder.
I-concept of a person is a kind of structure, the top of which is the Global Self, representing a sense of continuity of oneself and awareness of one's own uniqueness. Parallel to the Global I goes Image I, which is divided into modalities:
- Real I is a person's awareness of what he really is, that is, an understanding of his psychological characteristics, status, role.
- Mirror Self is a person's awareness of how others see him.
- Ideal Self is a person's idea of what he would like to be.
This structure is applicable only in theory, but in practice everything is much more complicated, because all the components are intertwined. In fact, the self-concept of a person is a mobile system of self-setting, which, in turn, has its own structure:
- Cognitive - cognitive processes of human consciousness.
- Affective - a short-term emotional process that is intense and manifested physically.
- Activity - any meaningful human activity.
Cognitiveand affective attitudes incorporate three modalities, such as awareness of the present self, awareness of the desired self, and self-image through the eyes of others, and each of these three modalities includes mental, emotional, social and physical components.
Development Self-concept is developed on the basis of the personal characteristics of the individual, as well as under the influence of communication with other individuals. In fact, the self-concept plays a role in achieving the internal coherence of the individual, interprets experience and is a factor in expectations. The functionality of this structure is the self-consciousness of a person.
