Many people believe that mysticism is something inexplicable, incomprehensible to human consciousness. However, this word has several meanings that differ significantly from each other.
Mysticism and religion
In its original sense, mysticism is a kind of religious practice, the purpose of which is to achieve unity with the higher mind, as well as a set of rules that regulate and explain its meaning. Mystical practice, the purpose of which is to establish a connection with God and divine powers, is called religious mysticism.
In the modern world, people are accustomed to mean by the word mystic all kinds of manifestations of otherworldly forces, divination, occultism, inspiring fear and horror. As a rule, everything that a person cannot give a reasonable interpretation is called mysticism.
Any religion denies mysticism. At the same time, mysticism also refutes the existence of God. However, if you think about it, the visions of the prophets and saints, on which all religions are built, are nothing but a manifestation of the mystical. Despite the age-old contradiction between religion and mysticism, most people, believing in God, do not exclude the existence of other inexplicable forces.
Science and mysticism
Several centuries ago, our ancestors could not explain in terms of sciencemany phenomena and considered them mystical. They worshiped various elements and stars, believed in forest spirits, deified natural phenomena. However, now scientists have found a scientific explanation for all the processes occurring in nature, and what used to be a mystery to people is now natural and understandable.
It is quite possible that everything that today people call the word "mysticism" is actually just an unexplored field of human knowledge. Probably, after some time, ghosts, poltergeists, healing and predictions will cease to inspire chilling horror in people. And the answer to the question of whether there is life after death will be as simple as, for example, why it rains.
Mysticism is a very broad concept in the philosophy of being, which can be called everything that cannot be rationally explained. As soon as science to some extent explains the nature of a mysterious phenomenon, it immediately ceases to be mystical. Therefore, mysticism will exist in our lives only until the scientific knowledge of mankind reaches a higher level.
Mystery as a genre of cinema
Mysticism is a genre of modern cinema that unites all films about supernatural and paranormal phenomena. Many refer to this category as horror films. Fans of the esoteric like to tickle their nerves by watching horror movies, so filmmakers are making more and more films in this genre.
In order to evoke a genuine sense of fear, mystical films are based on the hiddenhuman phobias. People are trying to find in mystical films answers to questions that concern them. The closer the film is to reality, the stronger the feeling of anxiety and horror when watching it.
Mysticism and fantasy in movies
Films made in the science fiction genre can also be classified as mystical. The characters in such films are often unknown fairy-tale creatures. They do not inspire chilling fear in the audience. But, as you know, fairy tales are based on the stories of our distant ancestors, who could somehow come into contact with such creatures. In science fiction films there is a share of the inexplicable, and therefore mystical.
To believe or not in the existence of the mystical is everyone's business. However, those who are able to discern something mysterious and inexplicable in everyday routine make their life more interesting and brighter. Mysticism is what allows us to approach something magical and expand the boundaries of our own consciousness.
