Perm is located on the banks of the Kama River and is a major industrial and cultural center of the Urals. The city is famous for its high spiritual culture and has several churches on its territory, which have long become Orthodox shrines of the region and are well-known places of pilgrimage for the faithful people of Russia. In numerous photos, the temples of Perm are presented in all their grandeur and splendor.

Peter and Paul Cathedral

The temple was founded in 1757 and is the oldest stone building in the city. The low baroque church once attracted numerous glances from travelers floating along the Kama River.

In the Soviet years, the temple was closed, and the property was nationalized. They tried to adapt the building for various purposes, but in 1990 the cathedral was returned to believers. Trinity Church

The church was built in 1849 on Mount Sludka, originally it was called Sludskaya. The temple was erected at the expense of the local merchant E. Shavkunov, had three aisles and its own parish school. The church flourished until the very revolution - most of the inhabitants of Perm were its parishioners.

After 1917, money and church utensils were confiscated in favor of the Soviet state. In the 1930s, the temple was converted into an armory, but already in 1944 it was returned to believers, although active restoration work began only in 2004.

Now the temple has been completely restored and is the current Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Perm diocese. The church is located on the street. Monastyrskaya, house 95.

Savior Transfiguration Cathedral

The next temple in Perm is a real architectural decoration of the city and an object of the country's cultural heritage. The cathedral is located on Komsomolsky Prospekt. Now an art gallery is open within its walls.

In 1560, on the banks of the Kama in the small village of Pyskor, the Transfiguration Convent was founded, which in 1781 was decided to be transferred to Perm. The move took 12 years to complete. After the arrangement of the monastery in a new place in 1798, the grandiose construction of the Transfiguration Church of the Savior began within its walls.

The temple is made in a mixed style - the features of Russian classicism are smoothly intertwined with Europeanbaroque. Later, the monastery was renamed the Bishop's House, and the small Cell Church located on the territory of the monastery was renamed the Mitrofan Cross Church.

The Bishops' Cemetery, demolished in 1931, adjoined the eastern wall of the cathedral. Now there is a zoo in this place.

Ascension-Feodosievsky Church

This church is one of the last in Perm built before the revolution. Its original name is the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. The temple building was erected from 1903 to 1904 with donations from the townspeople. The division of the Orthodox Church into two different currents had a negative impact on the history of the Ascension Church in Perm.

After the revolution, the parish community broke up into 2 camps, which led the profitable church to big losses. In 1930 the temple was closed. The Soviet authorities converted the building into a bakery, which worked here for many decades.

The building of the Perm temple was returned to believers in 1991. Now the building has been restored and given the status of an architectural monument of local importance.

Church of the Assumption of the Virgin

The Assumption Church in Perm was built in 1905 and is located on the territory of the old Egoshikha city cemetery. It was built on the site of a small wooden church in the name of All Saints, which by that time was in a dilapidated state.

The rectangular building of the church is crowned with onion cupolas, and the bell tower - with a hipped dome. The facades of the temple are decoratedvarious decorative elements - kokoshniks, belts, whorls and columns.

In Soviet times, the city film distribution warehouse was located here. In 1970, the building was badly damaged by fire. The Assumption Church in Perm was restored by the townspeople in 1989.

Other Orthodox churches in the city

Among other Orthodox shrines of the city, one can name the Church of All Saints, located in the Northern Cemetery of Perm (new Egoshihinskoe). The church was founded in 1832 at the expense of local merchants. Built in the style of classicism, the building of the temple has survived to this day almost unchanged.

On Lenin Street in Perm there is another significant temple of the city - the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built in 1789 at the expense of the merchant V. Lapin. The temple had an area of 1000 square fathoms and a belfry of 10 domes.

Like most Russian Orthodox shrines, the church was closed and partially destroyed. Returned to the Perm diocese in 2009, and by 2016 the building was completely restored.
