Description
The Orthodox Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Kozhevniki (on Paveletskaya) belongs to the Danilovsky deanery (Moscow city diocese) and is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. It is known that its construction was carried out from 1686 to 1689. The temple building was erected on the site of an old wooden church. In 1722, a baroque bell tower, square at the base, decorated with an octahedral tier, was added to the erected structure (presumably, it was designed by the architect I. Zarudny). Inside the bell tower is the chapel of the Archangel Michael.
In 1930, the Trinity Church in Kozhevniki was closed. Services here were resumed in 1992.
About parish activities
The rector of the temple is Priest Oleg Togobetsky. At the temple, there are circles for studying the biblical language, Catechism, Holy Scripture, needlework, various societies and help groups, the purpose of which is to organize the prevention of breakdowns and support for people with pathological addiction (alcohol, drugs, gambling, occult, chemical, food). There is a Center for Motivational Counseling, where experienced professionals provide spiritual assistance to those suffering from pathological addictions.
Architecture
The temple was built in the Russian-Byzantine style, presumably, according to the project of the architect IP Zarudny. The plan of the building issquare, has an attached altar ledge and towering five domes.
There are three thrones: the main one (located directly in the temple) is dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the other two - to the holy martyrs John and Cyrus, and the holy martyr Paraskeva (located in the aisles). The bell tower consists of a high quadrangle and a gallery (bypass) on four pylons. The church is lavishly decorated with Moscow baroque stucco.
History
In the 20-30s of the last century, the church was closed. In the 1980s, a large-scale restoration of the building was carried out. According to the plan, it was to be turned into a concert hall. The temple was returned to its original appearance: the domes and crosses destroyed during the years of Soviet persecution were restored, the old form of windows was revived, and internal partitions were eliminated. In 1992, the church building was transferred to the ROC (Russian Orthodox Church) and consecrated. For twenty-two years, the temple was restored by Archpriest Alexander Zaitsev.
Connoisseurs in their posts on the networks call this ancient temple a real beautiful pearl, hidden among the ugly buildings of the industrial zone. And they recommend that tourists take the time to get to know this masterpiece of seventeenth-century architecture.
