Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo: 200 years of history and service

Moscow has many old and new churches. All of them faithfully strengthen the spiritual life of the capital and the whole country. The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo is covered with legends, has been serving for over 200 years and helps its parishioners in many difficulties.

From the Time of Troubles

Chronicle references to the village of Karacharovo are found in descriptions from the second half of the 14th century. In the Time of Troubles, the village was devastated and given for restoration to Vasily Streshnev, a boyar who worked as a tsar's steward. Karacharovo. The village, or rather, the settlement, consisted of 42 peasant households, centered around the church, consecrated in honor of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "The Sign".

Karacharovo. The aisles of the church were not built so quickly, funds were collected by the whole world. From 1782 to 1837a chapel was built, consecrated in honor of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos and Nicholas the Wonderworker. The bell tower was erected in the period 1833-1834. According to legend, the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo was the place where Field Marshal Kutuzov prayed for victory before the "Tarutin maneuver", which subsequently decided the entire outcome of the Napoleonic campaign.

Since 1917, difficult times have come for faith and churches. The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo has become one of the refuges for the newly elected Patriarch Tikhon.

The turning point in 1917

The Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo continued to feed the flock, despite the difficulties. In the mid-thirties, Dmitry Glivenko was appointed to the church service, who was arrested in 1938.

The reason for the conclusion was the accusation of hiding the former rector of the temple - Peter Kosmodamiansky. Father Dmitry was captured and shot in March 1938. Before the Great Patriotic War, the Life-Giving Trinity Church in Karacharovo was closed.

Recovery

With the beginning of the 90s, the church was returned to the diocese after appeals from parishioners. The building was in a ruined state: only one tier remained from the bell tower, the dome was decapitated, a sculptors' workshop worked in the church premises. Restoration of the Life-Giving Trinity Church in Karacharovo began almost immediately. Forworks attracted parishioners, employees of the Spetsproektrestavratsiya Institute, many made large donations for the repair and restoration of the church.

Modernity

Today, the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo is a functioning church and a historical heritage of Moscow. More than 200 years of existence of the parish help parishioners feel the connection of times and generations. Schools operate at the church:

• Sunday school for children and youth, where they study traditional subjects - the Law of God, the Holy Scriptures, the history of the Church. In addition, children are engaged in creative workshops, gaining additional skills.
• School of Sextons. Classes are held for young people who want to connect their lives with church service in the future.

Actively work in the church with youth, helping inquisitive minds to understand the essence of Orthodoxy, introduce spiritual literature, conduct conversations. Priests and parishioners do a lot of work in the field of social work. Areas of concern include:

• Helping the elderly, caring for bedridden patients. As part of the work, priests come to those who cannot attend services on their own. Volunteers help with care, grocery shopping and more.
• Caring for families with many children - material assistance is provided with things and products, walks are taken with children, help in organizing time.
• Helping convicts in colonies - correspondence is being conducted, parcels are sent with food, literature and necessaryhousehold items.

Daily and festive services take place in the church. We present for those who wish to visit the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Karacharovo, the schedule of services:

• Saturday Liturgy starts at 08:00 am.
• Sunday and holiday liturgies are held at 07:00 and 10:00 am.
• The All-Night Vigil starts on Saturday and starts at 17:00.
