In the Moscow region, on the outskirts of the city of Krasnogorsk, there is a Russian Orthodox shrine - the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin. Every day, parishioners flock to the Assumption Church in Krasnogorsk to bow before the ancient faces of Theodosius of Totemsky, St. Luke and the relics of the Optina Elders.
Church History
The Assumption Church was built in 1618 in the village of Chernevo, which in Soviet times became part of the city of Krasnogorsk. Initially, it was a small wooden church, rebuilt several times due to fires. During its history, it has undergone many reconstructions and changes.
In 1690, a stone church was built on the site of a dilapidated church, which fell into disrepair after two centuries. Its walls were covered with cracks, and it became impossible to conduct services indoors. Therefore, the temple was dismantled and rebuilt.
In 1897 the new church building (now existing) was completed and consecrated. The construction was carried out at the expense of a local merchant A. Polyakov, designed by architect N. Kakorin.
The new temple was made in the Greek style and amazed the inhabitants of those years with its scale, grandeur and beauty.
After the October Revolution of 1917, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin suffered the fate of most Russian churches. First, all valuable utensils were confiscated. Then the temple was heavily taxed. The priests were unable to pay them, and the authorities closed the church.
The dome and the bell tower were dismantled, the icons were burned, and the walls were plastered. Iconostases and original wall paintings have been lost forever.
At first, a club was organized in the building of the Assumption Church, then a hospital. A sports hall was equipped under the dome itself, an internship dormitory was located in the outbuildings, and workshops were located on the ground floor.
Only in 1990, the Assumption Church in Krasnogorsk was reopened for worship. By this time, it was in a deplorable state - only walls remained of it. The building has been completely restored and renovated.
