The Holy Spirit Temple (Krasnodar) began counting its history a long time ago, namely, right after the founding of Yekaterinograd.

From the distant history of the temple

The first millennium of our era, namely 891, - this is where the history of this building originates. At that time, on the Black Sea, not far from the Crimean coast, a ship with Greeks on board fell into a very strong and terrible storm. Everyone who was on board at that time began to ask Saint George the Victorious for help. Of course, he heard the prayers of the Greeks and appeared before them on a huge stone, thereby stopping the storm and leading people away from death.

This incident contributed to the fact that the Greeks soon after the salvation erected a monastery in honor of the Saint, today it is called the Holy Spirit Temple. Krasnodar is considered his hometown. In those days, the temple was called the Balaklava Monastery because of the nearby village. I must say that the place there is very picturesque and has attracted tourists since ancient times. The temple was visited by many people, including the well-known Emperor Nicholas I and his wife.

Foundation of the monastery

Back in 1793, the Cossacks founded the city of Ekaterinodar, which is now called Krasnodar. Its northern part was mastered by the monks, where they arrangeda chapel with a skete. And in the future the building will be called the Church of the Nativity. Krasnodar will welcome everyone who wants to visit this famous monastery.

Already in the middle of the nineteenth century, the courtyard began to be rebuilt. A chapel, a prayer house, a rectory and two brick buildings were erected here, even outbuildings took place here. The very territory of the courtyard began to decorate the orchard.

Already at the end of the nineteenth century, Abbot Nikandrat appealed to the City Duma of Yekaterinrad, where he asked for help with the construction of a church on the territory of the already existing courtyard.

Construction

Money, of course, was not enough for the monastery, so its construction was very much delayed, although it had already been approved by the City Duma. Only in 1985, during the summer period, the first stone of the monastery was laid, and its construction began.

To our great regret, the name of the architect who developed the project itself has not been preserved. But according to some reports, Malgerbe took part in the construction, so it is generally accepted that he is the same architect who led the construction.

The construction was completed only in 1903, and already on November 30 of the same year the temple was consecrated in the name of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious. And so the Holy Spirit Temple appeared. Krasnodar has become a famous city in the Orthodox world.

The temple was made in the Byzantine style. The building includes a central part and two aisles. Basecrowned with five domes, the remaining six rose above the aisles, all domes are in the shape of an onion.

What's up with the temple today

The big event was that after a long wait, the Holy Spirit Temple was built. Krasnodar today is visited by many people who come to the church. It is known that she has undergone many troubles, but still defended her right to exist.

So, she survived the years of persecution: when all the churches were destroyed, St. George's Church remained intact and always received parishioners. The only thing is the loss of part of the territory that originally belonged to the temple. Today, about one tenth remains. Despite all this, it is still pleasing to the eye - St. George's Church. Krasnodar, on the other hand, can be proud of the fact that it has a church on its territory, which no revolution could break.

Today, citizens and guests of the city come not only to look at the relics that the temple keeps in itself, but also to find peace of mind. Temple doors are always open.
