Miracles associated with the Fedorov Icon
This shrine has a rich history, which is associated with miraculous events and phenomena. One of the first miracles happened in the 12th century, when the Mongol-Tatar horde approached Kostroma, where such a shrine as the Fedorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God was kept. The city was practically undefended, since the prince had only a small squad. The outcome of the battle, it would seem, was predetermined. In desperation, having lost hope of saving his city, the prince ordered to carry the Fedorov icon in front of the army and pray to everyone, calling on the Mother of God for protection. And in an instant, a bright light came from the icon, which blinded and burned the Tatars. The invaders fled, away from the Kostroma land. Thus the city was saved. At the place where this phenomenon occurred, a chapel was subsequently built, which can still be seen today. Later, people saw other miraculous phenomena. So, the temple where this image was located burned twice. During a fire, the icon rose unscathed above the flame and did not allow it to spread to residential buildings, thereby protecting the city from fire.
The icon of the Fedorovskaya Mother of God showed its miraculous power in a more modern period. Childless couples who have been unable to become parents for a long time make a pilgrimage to Kostroma to pray in front of the icon and ask for the birth of a child. Lucky list, who, after many years of childlessness, became parents, having previously made a pilgrimage to the Fedorov Icon, is replenished annually. There are other stories that tell of the healing of physical illnesses. There are so many of them that it is simply impossible to describe them all.
History of the Fedorov Icon of the Mother of God

But there is a more common legend, which says that the icon of the Fedorov Mother of God was created by order of Andrei Bogolyubsky in 1164. For a long time the image was kept in a small chapel in Gorodets. After this settlement was burned down, the icon disappeared. For a long time this icon was not mentioned anywhere, until the middle of the 13th century.
During this period, a miraculous phenomenon occurred in Kostroma. The young prince Vasily Yaroslavovich, while hunting, saw an icon with the image of the Virgin hanging in the air over a tree. She was immediately transferred with honors to the Church of the Great Martyr Fyodor Stratilat, which was located in Kostroma. It is assumed that after this event the icon became known as Fedorovskaya.
