Many monasteries are located throughout Ukraine. The western and central regions of the country are especially famous for them. Most of the national shrines were destroyed, damaged and even completely destroyed during the Soviet Union, but some of them managed to be revived and restored.

Holy Trinity Ioninsky Monastery in Kyiv
It is considered quite a young shrine. The monastery was founded in the 19th century. Located on the territory of the famous National Botanical Garden named after N. N. Grishko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The history of the monastery began even before the construction work. The great ascetic of the Russian Church Seraphim of Sarov himself predetermined the fate of the organizer of the temple to the future founder of the holy monastery Jonah. In 1836, the Mother of God herself appeared to the father three times, informing him of the need to build a male monastery in the city of Kyiv. Later, the Mother of God twice indicated the place where the monastery was bound to appear.
Building a monastery
Construction work began in 1866. Jonah was appointed chief. Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in 1871. Then workshops, solid stone cells and a refectory appeared here. In 1886, Father Jonah received the rank of archimandrite and became the abbot of the monastery.
Today Sunday schools work at the monastery. Here, students learn the basics of painting, the Greek language, choral singing and, of course, the Holy Scriptures. Reading courses are held at the monastery and a children's tourism club operates.

St. Nicholas Shargorod Monastery
The history of the shrine begins in the 18th century. It is noteworthy that the monastery was not built in Shargorod itself, but in the nearby village of Kalinovka. The Polish Prince Stanisław Lubomirski brought him to the city, where a school was opened by his order.
Since then, the monastery has undergone many changes. The school was replaced by a seminary, then a theological school was established. During the Soviet era, the monastery stopped its activities and was turned into a museum building. It was later used as a warehouse.
The revival of the legendary male monastery of Ukraine began in 1996. The central place in it is occupied by a copy of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which 19 years ago was presented to him by the servants of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra.
Unique architecture
The monastery is always open for visiting pilgrims. Being a famous architectural monument, it is of particular interest to art connoisseurs. The building combines styles from different times.
The ensemble includes a cathedral, two small churches, facades with majestic columns, towers, domes, bell towers and cells. Surprisingly, the wall painting also survived.

St. Panteleimon Convent
At the beginning of the 19th century, the Kyiv diocese restored the position of vicar bishop, the first of which was the rector Feofan. Having received state land for the construction of a country house, he began the construction of a church. Church of the Miracle of St. Archangel Michael was built in 1803.
The church received the official status of a religious institution under other bishops. It happened in 1901. After another 13 years, St. Panteleimon Cathedral was built here. In 1915, the majestic monastery became an independent monastery.
In the early 1990s, Archimandrite Seraphim was appointed abbot of the monastery. In the monastery there are particles of the relics of the healer Panteleimon, St. Seraphim of Sarov and other saints revered by Orthodox believers.

Holy Trinity Nemirovsky Stauropegial Convent
The holy monastery was founded in 1720 with funds provided by the governor I. Pototsky. The monastery became a women's monastery only in 1783, after it was reconstructed.
The peak of the development of the shrine falls on the life of the abbot Apollinaris. Then a large construction was launched. Nicholas and Assumption churches were restored, a new Holy Trinity Church was built, several bell towers, a hotel, a refectory, a hostel and cells were installed.
A school was opened at the monastery. In 1860, a diocesan school for girls began its work here. The monastery was closed in Soviet times. Some of the buildings were dismantled, the rest of the premises housed an orphanage and an automobile plant.
The famous nunnery of Ukraine was restored in 1996. Now there is a boarding school on its territory, where children with mental pathologies study.
