Magic runes are, in fact, just letters of the ancient Germanic alphabet. This type of writing in this region was eventually replaced by the Latin alphabet. In antiquity in Germany, these icons, which seem strange to us today, were mainly used to perpetuate cult and commemorative inscriptions. Very similar symbols were also used by the Turkic tribes.
There is a version that the Slavic peoples in pre-Christian times also had runic writing. However, science does not officially recognize this yet, since it does not have enough actual evidence.

In the Scandinavian countries there is a very interesting legend that tells about the origin of the symbols in question. According to this myth, the ancient god Odin, in order to know the wisdom of the world, nailed himself with a spear to the Tree of Life and hung on it for three days. After that, the runes that he gave to people were revealed to him.
Odin is a god who (according to legends and myths) can be judged as both evil and good. Therefore, rituals and spells performed with the help of runes are not always light. The first row includes the runes Fehu, Hagalaz, Teiwaz. These are symbols of victory. In Sigrdriva's Speech, advice is given to put the Sig runes on weapons and mark them with the name of Tyr, another Norse powerful god. Ale Symbols
The second row of runes - Uruz, Naudh, Bercana - are also called signs of beer. They are used to protect themselves from deception. The third row includes the signs Thurisaz, Isa, Algiz. With their help, you can protect yourself from those who perform rites of black magic, designed to harm. These symbolsalso used to call the dead or guess. They are also used in the preparation and conduct of magical rituals.

The fourth row of runes (Ansuz, Jera, Mannaz) is used to help in childbirth and as a talisman for women and children. These three symbols are considered to be a kind of intermediaries when referring to the Mother Goddess.

Where can runic formulas be applied
So, what are magic runes and their meaning, according to the ancient epic,we have found out. Next, let's figure out where they can be applied. Traditionally, runes are carved into wood. This is exactly what our ancestors did. This fact is evidenced by the fact that more than a third of the artifacts with runes found by archaeologists and researchers are made of yew wood. Nowadays, staves are usually drawn on paper.
However, if necessary, you can apply them on photographs, food, cosmetics, clothes, make talismans, amulets, etc. Rites of black magic are usually performed with drawing striking formulas on the photo of the enemy or even on yourself (on the body on the right side). In the latter case, they begin to act upon meeting. Of course, you can do the same as in ancient times, that is, take a wooden board and carve symbols on it.

By applying the formula Nauthiz-Eihwaz-Nauthiz (wolf hook), you can even bring the enemy to the grave. The "ice prison" - Nauthiz-Isa-Nauthiz.
Some staves in runic magic are also an opportunity to create powerful personal protection. In order to neutralize the harm caused by a hostile magician, you can use, for example, the formula Thurisaz-Tiwaz-Thurisaz. It is considered an all-purpose shield against any sorcerous attack. Damage can be removed with a combination of runes Nauthiz-Sowilo-Nauthiz or Eihwaz-Sowilo-Hagalaz-Sowilo-Jera. The binding to the grave is removed by the Thurisaz-Berkano-Eihwaz-Berkano-Thurisaz stave.
