Saint Lawrence: biography

In the world he was called Luka Evseevich Proskura. He was born as the sixth child in 1868 in the village of Karilsky, (near the town of Korop, Chernihiv Province) into a pious rural family. His father died early, his mother was often sick. At the age of 13, he graduated from the Zemstvo school. Even as a child, he fell during the game and hurt himself so much that he began to limp. For physical damage, as if in retribution, the Lord rewarded him with musical gifts.

Once, while in Korop, Luka met the director of the imperial choir, who came to see his native places. He discovered musical talents in the boy and began to teach him the art of regency and playing the violin. And in order to help the family with something significant, Luka learned to sew and became a professional tailor by the age of 17.

However, soon Luka became regent and wanted to leave as a novice in a monastery, but his older brother asked not to leave them. Together with his friend Simeon, he visited Father Jonah in Kyiv, on Athos and in Palestine. Simeon was accepted into the brethren of the Athos monastery, and Luka was sent back to Russia, because he was needed there more.

In 1912, when Luke was 45 years old, he was tonsured a monk with the name Lavrenty. Then two years passed, and he became a hierodeacon, and two more years later, a hieromonk. In 1928 he was secretly initiated intorank of archimandrite.

After the revolution, he, like the Kiev-Pechersk Saints Anthony and Theodosius, took upon himself the feat of cave life, digging caves in Chernigov in Boldinsky Mountain near the Trinity Monastery, which became known as Lavrentiev. Father Lavrentiy revealed martyrdom to hegumen Alipiy, later he was actually killed by atheists in the village of Ulyanovka, Sumy region.

When the Renovationist schism happened, Father Lavrenty supported Patriarch Tikhon. Irreconcilable was his position towards the Russian Orthodox Church abroad.

A time of hard trials

Rev. Lawrence is a holy prophet of the Soviet era, who gave birth to the Chernihiv land, which gave us many holy ascetics. In the 1930s, after the Trinity Church in Chernigov was closed, he secretly lived in an apartment (from 1930 to 1942) and could receive his spiritual children only at night.

When the Germans captured Chernihiv, at the age of 73 he organized monastic communities: male and female. Then, on Easter, he opened the Trinity Church, which became the main center of Orthodoxy in the Chernihiv region.

Prophecies about Ukraine

For example, about the split in Ukraine, he warned that all false teachings would come out there along with all evil spirits and secret atheists: Uniates, Catholics, self-sanctified Ukrainians and others. In Ukraine, the canonical Orthodox Church will experience strong attacks, enemies will oppose its unity and catholicity. All these servants of the Antichrist will be encouraged and supported in every possible way by the godless authorities, so the Orthodox will be beaten and parishes taken from them. The self-proclaimed Metropolitan of Kyiv will greatly shake the Church, in this he will be helped by like-minded people: bishops and priests. But then he himself will sink into eternal death, the fate of the traitor Judas awaits him.

Satanic Spite

However, all these intrigues of the evil one and false teaching will disappear, and there will be One Orthodox Church throughout Russia. There will never be a Patriarch in Kyiv, because they have always lived in Moscow. Already at that time, the Reverend Father Lavrenty, a holy elder from the land of Chernihiv, warned everyone to beware of the self-consecrated Ukrainian church and union.
