The history of the creation of the temple

The walls of the Alexander Nevsky Church in Zvenigorod were originally built of brick. At that time, it had already been proven that wooden churches suffered destruction in the form of fires.

L. Shapovalov became the architect of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral project in Zvenigorod. Eclecticism was chosen as the style of creation. On the quadrangle of the church rises a tin drum of eight faces and a tent. The western part of the building is complemented by a refectory and a bell tower, which has the shape of a rectangle.

In addition to funding by local residents, the money was received by selling five acres of forest. A special construction commission was elected to start construction work. It was headedcity elder. This fact testifies to the interest in the creation of the church of the first persons of the city.

The church owes its appearance to the funds donated by local resident A. Andriyanova. She donated 100 rubles to a good cause. The construction of the building took approximately three years. Its solemn consecration took place in 1902 with the participation of Bishop Partheny of Mozhaisk.

Difficult period

The destruction of the Soviet period did not spare this shrine either. The atheists destroyed the cemetery around the temple. During this period, a terrible event happened - the holy martyr Nikolai Rozanov, the then rector of the temple, was shot. The church could have been destroyed like many other monuments of religion. But the temple withstood the hardships of a terrible period.

In the difficult pre-revolutionary times, the church building became a women's hostel. Later, a communication center was placed in it. This led to the loss of an important structural element - the central dome of the church was replaced with an antenna for broadcasting radio broadcasts. Fortunately, the church managed to survive the period of the Great Patriotic War.
