In middle and high school, a career counseling test is required for teenagers. After all, it is important that they decide in advance on their speci alty. And it is necessary to choose it not only on the basis of whether this profession is prestigious or not, but also to take into account the inclination of a person to this speci alty, whether he will be able to realize his potential in it. One popular option is the Holland test: a technique for professional self-determination.
The essence of the technique
The essence of this questionnaire is that a person can only achieve success in the area that suits his personality type. The behavior of an individual is determined not only by the characteristics of his character, but also by his environment. A correctly chosen profession (in accordance with personal qualities) allows you to realize your abilities, expressing internal value orientations. Holland's technique helps to determine the student's abilities and correlate them with a particular speci alty.
What you need
To conduct this test, youwill need:
- cards with pairs of professions;
- a piece of paper;
- pen.
If you are going to conduct a survey with a large number of students at once, then you can not distribute cards to each, but simply read them out, and the teenagers will already choose the appropriate answers. Before testing, you need to explain to children the importance of the results for them. After all, this technique allows you to determine what a person has inclinations and in what area he can develop his abilities.
Instructions
A person is offered a choice of 43 pairs of professions (a simplified version of the questionnaire is shown in the photo below). Each of them has its own code, indicated by a letter. In a special form there are lines with the same values. Professions are placed in pairs - opposite each other. Of the two speci alties, you should mark for yourself only one that is most suitable for you. If the participant does not know what kind of profession it is, then he can ask for an explanation from the tester. In the form, you need to find the corresponding letter of the speci alty you like and put a "+" sign in this line.
Next you need to count the number of identical letters, i.e. the number of pluses. Then the largest value is chosen, which will serve as a guide for the student's belonging to any professional type (there are six in total).
Interpretation of results
According to Holland's methodology, the main indicator is the first two or three types. And other components have a weaker characteristic due tothat they are somewhat contradictory. A person's satisfaction with their job depends on how it matches their personality type.
