Past days of the monastery

The Temple of the Not-Made-by-Hands Image of Christ the Savior has experienced a lot of various events. Its construction began during the emperor's ban on building sandstone buildings only in cities on the Neva.

In 1714, Prince Golitsyn wrote a petition to the tsar himself with a request to allow the construction of a church on his lands. With some hesitation, the emperor gave permission, but appointed a tax collected from all clerics and their courtyards located near the temple.

According to the will of Princess Golitsyna, services were ruled four times a year by a visiting priest. Every year the landowners paid him a salary of 150 rubles.

The Church of the Holy Image of Christ the Savior remained inscribed until the beginning of the twentieth century.

Changes

Change came with the beginning of the technological revolution. Then in 1904, the owner of the land and the Gireevo estate decided to equip a new village with all amenities. Anyone could buy a piece of land or take an installment plan to buy it in the office.

When the town was rebuilt, the locals realized that the services held from Easter to Intercession were not enough. In addition, the church building was completely dilapidated and required major repairs. The landowner Torletsky wrote a petition to the Metropolitan to hold services in the winter, and for this he will rebuild a new church.

The petition was approved with the condition that the existing building will be restored, but it will not receive its own parish.

Thus, the Church of the Holy Image of Christ the Savior in Novogireyevo became active and received a new life. In 1912 there wereFunds raised and restoration started.

With the advent of the new government, all valuables were taken out of the temple, and it was closed. Bells were taken down and services were banned. Father Alexander believed to the last that the parish would be restored. But until 1989, the building of the Church of the Image of Christ the Savior Not Made by Hands remained as an outbuilding for various needs.

Church work today

After the building was returned to the church, Metropolitan Pimen appointed Archpriest Alexander Dasaev as rector. The building was restored by the whole world. Great help was provided by Prince Lopukhin and the descendants of the builder of the temple, the princes Golitsyn.

Church of the Holy Image of Christ the Savior functions daily. Liturgies and prayers are held. Volunteers help carry the Word of God to patients at a nearby hospital. They help prepare for confession, bring literature and holy water.
