August is a wonderful warm summer month, which accounts for the celebration of such Christian celebrations as the Savior. There are three such holidays in total, and they differ from each other in their significance. What they have in common is that each Feast of the Savior is associated with Jesus Christ, our Savior. First Feast of the Savior
The first celebration in honor of Christ the Savior is celebrated annually on August 14th. This holiday was established in honor of the origin of the trees of the Cross of the Lord. To this day, particles of this relic have been preserved, which have miraculous powers. Currently, they are stored in Constantinople, in the church of Hagia Sophia. There are cases of numerous healings, the cessation of epidemics and disasters that occurred thanks to these particles of the Cross. This Spas is an Orthodox holiday that falls on the very first day of the Dormition Fast. Therefore, merry celebrations are not allowed. On this day, you can not eat any meat dishes or dairy dishes. Traditionally, this Spas is called honey.
This is due to the fact that thishoneycombs are filled with fresh honey, which you can already enjoy. There is also such a name for this holiday as "poppy". There are two reasons for this. In accordance with the first, such a naming of the celebration is associated with the ripening of poppy in Russia. According to the second version, the name was influenced by the fact that on the same day the martyrs of Maccabees, Old Testament saints are commemorated.
Second Feast of the Savior
This celebration is celebrated annually on August 19 together with the Transfiguration of the Lord. Therefore, such a feast of the Savior is the most significant of all, because it belongs to the twelfth. On this day it is allowed to eat apples. According to ancient customs, it was considered a sin to try these fruits earlier than this day. In addition to apples, people traditionally bring other fruits and cereals to church to illuminate them with holy water. The celebration of the Apple Savior goes on for nine days. During this period, it is customary to go on a visit, give apples, and also cook various dishes from them, make preparations for the winter.
Third Feast of the Savior
The last of the celebrations falls on August 29th. It is also called "dozhinki", as the collection of bread ends at this time. There is also such a name as "Nut Spas". The history of the holiday in this case is associated with the fact that nuts are just ripening by this time. There is also the name "Savior on the canvas", which is due to the fact that on this day the transfer of the Image of the Lord Not Made by Hands is celebrated. History takes us back to the distant days when Jesus Christ still lived on earth. To heal one person, he sentsick towel, with which the Savior wiped His face, as a result of which His image remained on the cloth. Barely touching the canvas, the sufferer was healed of his illness. These are the stories associated with the origin of the ancient holidays of the Savior.
